Former President John Mahama has been urged by Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) to provide more details on his recent pledge to provide free postsecondary education for Level 100 pupils. EduWatch noted that more information was needed regarding the policy’s implementation. While acknowledging the potential advantages of such an initiative, Divine Kpe, Senior Programmes Officer at EduWatch, emphasized the need to fortify the current student financial assistance systems.
A recent report from EduWatch brought attention to the difficulties experienced by seniors in high school as they prepare to enter postsecondary education. Over 60% of students admitted to postsecondary institutions are unable to enroll because of financial difficulties, according to Mr. Kpe. According to National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama, first-year university students will not be required to pay academic fees.He claims that this is a part of a government program to help parents who are struggling to pay for their kids’ education. On August 12, during the NDC’s manifesto reading, he said these things.
EduWatch has joined the chorus of those demanding greater clarification on how this will be accomplished in light of the nation’s current economic circumstances.Mr. Kpe emphasized that in order to improve financial support for postsecondary students, a comprehensive strategy is required. Although EduWatch acknowledges the possible implications of Mahama’s suggested free postsecondary education for Level 100 students, Mr. Kpe came to the conclusion that the implementation of such a program would be crucial to its success.
