The government’s recent prohibition on the export of important commodities, such as maize, rice, and soybeans, has not pleased the Peasant Farmers Association. Following the announcement of a restriction on certain crops by Bryan Acheampong, Minister of Food and Agriculture, there is cause for concern. He claims that this action will guarantee national food security. The directive from Mr. Acheampong is a reaction to the current drought that has severely impacted eight regions’ agricultural output.
According to Mr. Nortey, supply and demand frequently decide grain prices on the market; nevertheless, this prohibition would compel farmers to provide their food at a discount in order to keep it from rotting in their barns.
