FC Samartex’s journey in the CAF Champions League came to an end after suffering a defeat against Raja Club Athletic on Saturday. The Ghanaian side faced the Moroccan giants in the second leg of the second preliminary round at Stade Larbi Zaouli, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg at Accra Sports Stadium.
From the outset, Samartex struggled to keep up as Raja dominated possession and dictated the flow of the match. Just before the halftime whistle, Marouane Zila found the back of the net, putting Raja ahead and giving them a crucial advantage in the tie.
In the second half, Raja Club Athletic continued to control the game, keeping Samartex at bay while creating several attacking opportunities. Despite their best efforts, the Timber Giants couldn’t break through the Moroccan defense.
In the final moments of the match, Naoufel Zerhouni scored a second goal for Raja, sealing a 2-0 victory and advancing them to the group stage with a 4-2 aggregate win.
With their CAF Champions League hopes dashed, FC Samartex will now turn their attention to domestic competitions, including the FA Cup and the Ghana Premier League.
