The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s (KBTH) Surgery Department was in near anarchy when Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minority Spokesperson on Health, barged in to find out why elective procedures had been suspended, purportedly due to malfunctioning Elevators. The hospital had previously said that all elective surgeries would be suspended because of malfunctioning Elevators.
Along with a few journalists, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh visited the facility to confirm the reports of the malfunctioning lifts. But when they got there, a staff member greeted them and wouldn’t let the MP interview patients on the surgical department’s property, which sparked an argument. Mr. Akandoh claimed that in order to comprehend the concerns, he had to visit the facility in person.
Mr. Akandoh questioned why the hospital neglected to try routine maintenance and instead waited years until the lift fully broke down. The Ranking Member voiced concern that common Ghanaians seeking elective surgeries will suffer as a result of the hospital management’s incompetence. He urged the Health Minister and other relevant parties to address this matter as soon as possible.
