We Need $5bn To Address Flooding Nationwide – Ghana Hydrological Authority

The Ghana Hydrological Authority has stated that, $5 billion is required to address the nation’s flooding issues. The body believes that the GH¢92 million allotted to them in 2023 under the National Flood Control Programme is insufficient.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Dr. John Kissi, emphasised the need of the $5 billion during a speech before the Assurance Committee in Parliament on Wednesday. He stated that the money is needed for comprehensive flood prevention and control throughout the country.

He remarked Under the National Flood Control Programme, they will receive approximately GH¢92 million in 2023 to carry out mitigation works against flooding nationwide. However, in order to fully address the challenges posed by flood waste, they estimate that approximately $5 billion will be needed nationwide.
