Starting October 10, 2024, the government will distribute food grants to over 800,000 farmers affected by the recent dry spell in the northern and middle regions of the country. Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, announced that each farmer will receive a 25kg bag of rice and 100kg of maize.
During a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, the Abetifi MP stated that this Food Grants distribution is part of the government’s broader efforts to mitigate the impact on affected farmers. Additionally, to ease the strain on the general population, an online grains market will be launched, allowing the public to conveniently purchase maize and rice at affordable prices.
