The National Democratic Congress (NDC) requested an independent forensic evaluation of the provisional voter registration, but the Electoral Commission (EC) declined their request. Following the NDC’s concerns over purported irregularities in the voter roll, the EC and the opposition party met behind closed doors before this rejection.
The NDC’s Director of Elections, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, expressed displeasure and underlined the need for a forensic audit to rebuild public trust in the electoral process. The NDC has made no secret of its worries, main among them being the degree of what they perceive to be manipulation of the voter transfer mechanism. They contend that there are unauthorised transfers in the preliminary register, which may jeopardise the integrity of the 2024 elections.
The party has demanded openness and asked that impartial specialists be brought in to audit the voter list. Dr. Boamah compared the audit process to a medical referral system and emphasised the need for it to be handled by an outside organisation. As the 2024 elections get near, questions concerning electoral openness have been raised by the EC’s steadfast refusal to move forward with the audit.
