Gabriel nodded home a superb winner as Arsenal climbed to the second spot in the English Premier League table after a nervy 1-0 victory against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.
The Brazilian defender was again unmarked to power home a header from a Bukayo Saka right-wing corner on the 64-minute mark as Mikel Arteta’s side reposed their prowess in set pieces again.
It rounded off a spirited, tactical performance by the Arsenal that adopted a back five formation, sat deep and moved danger man amidst Spurs, mostly threatening on the break, thus negating the home side at every opportunity and doing a good job in the midfield with Rice and Odegaard missing from the team.
The first half started with intensity of the two teams, though new signing in the summer Dominic Solanke missed a notable chance for Tottenham while David Raya saved Dejan Kulusevski.
The result moves Arsenal to second in the table, still two points off the pace set by Manchester City. Tottenham are 13th in the log with four points in as many matches in the English premier league.
