President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed Dodzie Numekevor, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), effective immediately, according to sources at Jubilee House. The president’s decision was reportedly influenced by concerns over the poor condition of the country’s football pitches.
Dr. Numekevor, who was appointed interim Director General of the NSA on February 26, 2024, following the departure of Professor Peter Twumasi after six years in the role, faced criticism after CAF banned the Black Stars from using the Baba Yara Sports Stadium which is the country’s only approved venue for international matches.
Ghana’s failure to meet CAF’s standards for international games led to the ban, despite repeated warnings. As a result, the country is likely to host its next AFCON 2025 home game against Sudan in October at a neutral venue, possibly in Morocco, Ivory Coast, or Nigeria.
