Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has called for a simplification of Ghana’s passport application process. While campaigning in the Nkwanta North constituency, he pledged that his government would revamp the procedure by using data from the Ghana Card as the primary source for passport applications.
A strong advocate for Ghana’s digitalization efforts, Dr. Bawumia continues to push for these initiatives even amid criticism regarding his administration’s handling of pressing economic issues. He asserts that digitalization is vital to achieving the country’s broader development objectives.
During his campaign stop in Nkwanta North in the Oti Region on October 28, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that digital innovations are intended to enhance the quality of life for Ghanaians. He specifically noted that digitizing the passport application process could alleviate many bureaucratic challenges.
In a separate engagement in the Akan constituency, a prominent chief expressed disappointment that the Oti Region did not provide stronger support for the NPP in the last elections, despite the party’s pivotal role in establishing the new region.
