In response to the ongoing strike by the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) and the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), the President of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana, University of Cape Coast (GRASAG-UCC), H.E. Robert Ipiin Gnankob, has taken a remarkable initiative to address a pressing issue affecting students: the overflowing waste in VALCO Trust Hall.
Addressing Waste Issues During the TEWU Strike
With university activities halted due to the strike, waste collection services have also been disrupted, leading to health concerns for students living in the hall. Taking matters into his own hands, President Gnankob personally emptied all the dustbins from the ground floor to the top floor of VALCO Trust Hall. This commendable effort aimed to prevent potential health hazards associated with uncollected waste.
A Call for Cleanliness and Responsibility
After completing the clean-up, Gnankob emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene during this challenging period. He urged all residents of VALCO Trust Hall and the wider university community to keep their surroundings clean, stating, “I urge all occupants to maintain hygiene and keep their surroundings clean; this strike should not expose any of us to health-related risks.”
Inspiring Resilience Among Students
The President’s proactive approach serves as a rallying call for students to stay resilient and take responsibility for their environment, even in the face of adversity. His actions highlight the importance of community spirit and individual responsibility in maintaining a safe and healthy living space during the TEWU strike.
By stepping up in this way, GRASAG-UCC President Robert Ipiin Gnankob not only tackled the immediate issue of waste but also inspired a collective effort to promote cleanliness and hygiene throughout the university.
