Ghanaian musician Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters after emerging victorious in the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidential election.
Running alongside his vice-presidential candidate, Jeffrey Adu-Yeboah, Guru secured 9,455 votes out of a total 18,659 ballots cast, giving them a narrow majority of 50.7%. Their closest rivals, Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah and Lawrence Edinam Egleh, garnered 6,645 votes, making up 35.6% of the total votes.
In a post-election statement, Guru’s team expressed immense joy, humility, and appreciation for the support received throughout their campaign. They acknowledged the challenges faced, including a disqualification that required an appeal, but highlighted the resilience and determination that ultimately led to their success.
They thanked their legal team, Gideon Agyapong (Lead Counsel), Murdock Yeboah (Co-Counsel), and Emmanuel Hanson (Co-Counsel), for being their backbone in helping them win the appeal.
“This feat would not have been accomplished without the unwavering support, guidance and trust you have placed in us. Our foremost gratitude goes to Dear Onyame for guiding us throughout this process,” portions of the statement read.
The Guru-led administration has called on fellow students to effectively collaborate with them to address their challenges to improve their experiences.
