Erling Haaland struck twice as Manchester City came from behind to secure a 3-1 victory over Brentford, preserving their perfect start to the Premier League season. The match began in stunning fashion when Yoane Wissa pounced on an error after just 23 seconds, capitalizing on a miscommunication between John Stones and Ederson to score the fastest goal of the season.
Brentford’s early lead unsettled City, but Haaland quickly turned things around. After Kevin de Bruyne lost possession in the box, the Norwegian striker pounced on the loose ball to fire home and level the score.
Haaland, despite suffering the emotional loss of a close family friend earlier in the week, remained composed. His second goal came before halftime, as he overpowered defender Ethan Pinnock to meet Ederson’s long ball and secure City’s lead.

With the home crowd urging him on, and his father, Alfie, watching from the stands, Haaland pressed for the historic goal. Manager Pep Guardiola even resisted making a substitution, despite City’s upcoming Champions League clash against Inter Milan – a rematch of the 2023 final. However, on this occasion, Haaland had to be content with a brace, just missing the elusive third goal.
