The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has temporarily closed the Atebubu-Prang section of the Kumasi-Yeji highway due to the flooding of the Nyomoase River, which has caused the Nyomoase bridge to become impassable.
Emmanuel Okangklu, the Regional Director of the GHA, explained that the river has overflowed its banks, posing serious risks to motorists and travelers on this critical route. As a result, the decision was made to close the bridge for safety reasons, particularly since it recently underwent construction and remains within a critical observation period.
In an official statement, Mr. Okangklu strongly advised all road users to avoid the area and instead seek alternative routes until further notice. He emphasized that the current condition of the bridge is hazardous and warned that any attempt to cross the flooded section could be life-threatening.
Mr. Okangklu also cautioned drivers against taking advice from local residents who may offer to guide them through the floodwaters, stressing that such actions could lead to dangerous accidents.
The GHA is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates as necessary. Mr. Okangklu assured the public that normal traffic will resume once water levels recede and the bridge is deemed safe for passage.
