African Electoral Institute in support of live broadcast of IPAC meetings

The African Electoral Institute (AEI) is requesting that IPAC meetings be televised “unedited” in order to promote transparency over the robustness and integrity of the voter registration in 2024. In a statement, AEI said: “Unedited broadcasts of such important meetings will enable the electorate to witness discussions and decisions firsthand, hence promoting openness and inclusivity.” According to AEI, the unedited broadcast will guarantee that the EC and IPAC are held responsible for their deeds and commitments made to the voters.

The civil society organisation added that an unfiltered broadcast will strengthen the Electoral Commission’s credibility by demonstrating its dedication to transparency in line with its basic values of justice, integrity, and transparency.

For the reasons listed above, AEI declares that it is in favour of the unedited broadcast of IPAC sessions in order to advance accountability, transparency, and trust—all of which will help strengthen Ghana’s democratic processes, political stability, and the possibility of a credible, peaceful election that will foster national cohesion.

It claims that this kind of action is necessary since Ghana’s general election on December 7, 2024, will have a significant impact on the nation’s democratic development, economic growth, and regional stability. It also mentioned that this election will strengthen Ghana’s democratic credentials and political stability, as the country is known for peacefully transferring power.
