An Accra High Court is set to deliver its judgment on December 4 in the case involving Daniel Asiedu, alias Sexy Don Don, who stands accused of the murder of former Member of Parliament J.B. Danquah Adu.
The court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, a Court of Appeal judge with additional High Court responsibilities, will conclude the case after hearing final arguments from both the defense and the prosecution.
Principal State Attorney Sefakor Batsa, representing the prosecution, completed the cross-examination of Asiedu, also known as Gucci Young Star, on Thursday.
During the cross-examination, Asiedu denied the prosecution’s claims that his DNA was found at the home of the late MP and at the property of Abigail Marfo, a witness in the case. The prosecution alleged that Asiedu had gone to Marfo’s property to clean himself after the alleged crime and that a red hat found there contained his DNA. Asiedu refuted this, asserting that he had no involvement in the incident.
The defendant further disputed claims that he had provided more than ten statements to the police following his arrest, alleging that only one statement was his own. He argued that the remaining statements were written by the police under duress, and he was forced to thumbprint them.
Asiedu also rejected the accusation that he stabbed J.B. Danquah Adu and stole his mobile phones, which the prosecution claims were later found in his possession. He insisted, “The police never collected any mobile phone from me. The phone was taken from another individual, whose identity I do not know. I later heard that this person visited Madam Ursula Ekuful and Kennedy Agyapong for a meeting, but the police failed to summon them as witnesses in court.”
He admitted that he had tattoos of his name and alias on his body and offered to display them to the jury if allowed by the court. However, he denied any involvement in the killing of J.B. Danquah Adu, stating that he had no personal grievances against the deceased and was innocent of all charges.
Responding to questions from the jury, Asiedu explained that he had gone to the Regional Police Command, or Accra Central Police, to report an issue concerning a prostitute. Regarding a cup handed to him by the police during a scene reconstruction, Asiedu acknowledged he had blood on his hands from a head injury but could not confirm if the cup had blood stains.
When asked about the security cameras at the deceased’s house, Asiedu said he could not recall their presence due to stress at the time.
Asiedu has pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder. His co-accused, Vincent Bossu, alias Junior Agogo, was earlier acquitted of conspiracy after the court upheld a submission of no case against him.
The court’s decision on the matter is highly anticipated, as it brings a step closer to resolution in the case involving the tragic death of J.B. Danquah Adu on February 8, 2016.
