Sekondi High Court lifts ban on Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s candidacy in Amenfi Central

The Sekondi High Court has removed the injunction that previously prevented Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Amenfi Central, from contesting in the upcoming parliamentary election.

This decision, delivered on Monday, November 11, 2024, came after a prior adjournment on November 7. The NDC had filed a request asking the court to overturn Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s disqualification, allowing her to run in the December 7 election. The case was overseen by His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh.

Earlier in the proceedings, Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s lead counsel, Edudzie Tamakloe, urged the court to expedite the case, highlighting that any further delay could obstruct her right to stand for election. His Lordship Gyan-Kontoh acknowledged the importance of a swift resolution and encouraged both sides to consider settling the matter out of court, though this option was not pursued.

With this ruling, Joana Gyan Cudjoe is now eligible to participate in the Amenfi Central race.

Expressing her gratitude after the court’s decision, she said, “We thank God for everything that has happened today, especially my new lawyers who came in to support me… I thank God and all the NDC members, executives, and everyone in the Western Region NDC. I must say I am very happy.”
