The injured Alexander Djiku will be replaced in Ghana’s roster for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers by FC Basel defender Jonas Adjetey Adjei. Following Djiku’s thigh injury on Friday during a league game for Fenerbahce, Adjetey was substituted by coach Otto Addo.
Jonas Adjetey, who is only twenty years old, will soon make his Black Stars debut. Having appeared in all six of FC Basel’s games this season, he has been causing quite a stir in the Swiss Super League. Adjetey’s football career started at Teshie Football Academy. Prior to joining Basel, he played for Accra Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea.
On Monday, he will train with the national squad in anticipation of the forthcoming qualifications. On September 5, Ghana will play Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. On September 9, Ghana will travel to Berkane, Morocco, to play Niger.
