Jubilee House reacts to alleged attempt to seize GIS land

The Jubilee House has emphatically dismissed as fake rumors, perceptions and all other indications that have been made regarding an attempt to evict and take over the Ghana International School (GIS) land.

This comes after GIS Principal Frank Amponsah-Mensah, who claimed that the school had bought the land from the Lands Commission some time back. But, entering the school compound after school hours, with sand, blocks and an excavator which they said belonged to a man who introduced himself as a Chief Superintendent of Police from the Police VVIPU – the Presidential Protection, the group was reported to have ordered the arrest of Dr. Martey and seize the school. A group started making trenches and planning to put up a wall on the compound claimed by the schools’ side in the outskirts of the school.

Consequently, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, in a statement said that the Office of the President has no appetite for the piece of land in question. He also said that to his knowledge, no officer or representative from the Presidency had been instructed to meddle with any issues concerning GIS’s property in the area of Cantonments. “The said Chief Superintendent Ibrahim Opoku of the VVIP unit of the OOP did his professional duty by handing over alleged encroachers and suspects to the Cantonments Police Station when he chanced upon an altercation at the Cantonments barrier on his way from work.

“The Chief Superintendent submitted his credentials at the police station, as he is enjoined to do, as part of standard operating procedure in such situations,” the statement added.

In light of the above, the Office of the President says a formal complaint has been to the Inspector General of Police to investigate the entire matter.
