Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid, suffered a calf injury during training a little more than two weeks before England kicks off their Nations League campaign. On Friday, the 21-year-old was unable to complete a club session. To find out how long Bellingham is expected to be out, BBC Sport has gotten in touch with Real. According to reports from Spain, he won’t be allowed to play until late September, which means he won’t be eligible for Lee Carsley’s first two matches as interim manager of England.
In the Nations League, England takes on Finland on September 10 and the Republic of Ireland on September 7. In a statement, Real stated that Bellingham’s “progress will be monitored” following Friday’s medical testing for the issue with his right calf. Earlier this month, Carsley, 50, was named temporary manager in the wake of Gareth Southgate’s resignation from Euro 2024.

In his first season at the Bernabeu last season, Bellingham scored 23 goals in 42 games as Madrid won both the La Liga and the Champions League. The former Dortmund midfielder started both the team’s Super Cup victory against Atalanta earlier this month and last weekend’s 1-1 La Liga draw against Mallorca.
On August 29, Carsley is scheduled to announce his team for the Nations League matches. Ashley Cole, a former left-back for England, will support him as he takes temporary command. Carsley’s backroom staff also includes Tim Dittmer, the head of coaching for the Football Association, and former England centre-back Joleon Lescott.
