The Judicial Service has addressed a petition from Sam George, MP for Ningo Prampram and a proponent of the Pro-Family Values Bill, seeking an expedited hearing of the Supreme Court cases related to the bill. Alongside various Christian organizations, George petitioned the Judicial Service and the Attorney-General on October 8 for a quicker resolution.
In its response, the Judicial Service clarified that the Supreme Court can only hear the case once all parties have presented their positions. It noted that the parties involved have exceeded the 14-day deadline required for filing their cases.
The Judicial Service emphasized that both Parliament and the parties have not complied with the necessary requirements for the trial to proceed. While acknowledging the Chief Justice’s discretionary powers, the Service highlighted that this does not extend to situations where cases are not presented to the court.
The statement urged the involved parties to prioritize the case as indicated in the petition and to file the necessary documents promptly for the cases to be heard.
