Following a bus accident on the Kwahu Atibie Mountain, one person has been officially declared dead and sixty-six more are in serious condition at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital and Kenop Care Hospital. The reason of the accident is unknown, but it included a bus registered GE 7652-15 that belonged to the Monack Football Club in Ningo Prampram. The players were on board when the vehicle descended a mountain, and it became involved in an accident that trapped five of them under and instantly killed one.
The Kwahu Atibie accident happened when athletes were on their way back home following a football match in Kwahu Obo. Those stranded beneath the bus needed to be rescued quickly by the Nkawkaw Fire Command and transported to two hospitals with assistance from other drivers. A few of the drivers who helped with the rescue effort urged the government to replace the lighting along that section in order to help lower the number of accidents that occur every day, particularly at night.
D02 Samuel Mante, the commander of the Nkawkaw fire service, who was recounting the story said a bus carrying football players from Ningo Prampram was involved in a fatal accident this dawn as they were departing after a match,. When we got there, there were sixty-three persons there, one of them was dead and numerous more seriously injured. The injured were quickly transported to the hospital by us, and they are now receiving care there.
