Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah has vowed to write his name in the history of Sudan by taking the teams to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Appiah, who guided Ghana to the 2014 World Cup, views this as a significant breakthrough if he can secure World Cup qualification for the North African nation.
Sudan have gained three victories and one draw for a total of 10 points, they are now two points ahead of Senegal who occupy the second place with eight points.
Appiah said to FIFA in a recent interview. “Reaching the World Cup would be a tremendous boost for the development of football in the country. It would simplify administrative processes and potentially transform the lives of my players,”
“At present, there are only two professionals in the squad. World Cup participation could inspire them to pursue careers in Europe and change their perspective on their potential. The joy and impact of such an achievement would be immense for all of Sudan.”
Appiah’s Sudan are in the same group with Ghana for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
