2025 AFCON qualifiers – Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan beat Niger to protect unbeaten start

Sudan’s head coach, Kwesi Appiah, continued his unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory over Niger in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The Group F clash took place on Wednesday at the Juba Stadium, where the Falcons secured all three points thanks to a 51st-minute goal by Abobaker Mamoun Eisa.

This victory has put Sudan on top of Group F at least for the time being until the result of Thursday’s match between Ghana and Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium is made available. Meanwhile, Appiah and his technical team are targeting to qualify for the AFCON tournament in Morocco after missing out on the previous edition in Ivory Coast.

Next up Appiah will lead the Sudanese team against Angola on their second group fixture before facing his ex-players in the Black stars of Ghana. Since the appointment of Kwesi Appiah, the team has not tasted defeat with the record reading three wins and one draw in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Such an imposing style has put Sudan at the summit in Group B with 10 points in four games.
