‘Land guard’ remanded for swiping linguist, others with iron rods

Accra Circuit Court has ordered Atinga Ayambire detained based on charges of an act of violence against a linguist and three others in Busuafie near Danchira in a dispute over a piece of land. Ayambire, a farmer whose name was given as a member of the Danchira group of land guards, has been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, engaging in prohibited activities as a land guard, four counts of assault, and causing unlawful harm, the prosecution said.

Ayambire has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges preferred against him. His associates include Rasta, Tupac, Akuffo Addo, Nigga and One Area all are still on the run.

Opposing the petition for bail, the chief inspector Daniel Danku stated that the investigation is still on process, and the police did arrest the other suspects some of whom are still at large. The court has set Ayambire’s next hearing for the 9th of September 2024.

From the prosecution’s side, the first accused, Ayikwei Ofori, also called Okyeame, is the linguist of Busuafie. The incident happened when Ayambire and other people attacked Ofori and another man identified as George Darku on a piece of land that the latter had bought from Ofori at Busuafie.
