The High Court in Accra has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Bernard Mornah, a presidential aspirant for the People’s National Convention (PNC), challenging his disqualification from the 2024 presidential election by the Electoral Commission (EC).
In a ruling delivered on Monday, October 21, 2024, Justice Richard Apietu stated that Mornah’s claims were unfounded. Mornah had argued that the EC failed to provide specific reasons for his disqualification and did not give him an opportunity to rectify errors in his nomination forms.
However, the court ruled that a letter from the EC dated September 13, 2024, outlined several anomalies in Mornah’s nomination, including forged signatures and incorrect voter identification numbers. The EC had given him the chance to correct these issues and resubmit the forms the same day.
Justice Apietu stressed that once Mornah was informed of the anomalies, it was his responsibility to rectify the errors. The court, therefore, refused his application for judicial review and dismissed the case.
