University of Ghana wins legal tussle over Legon Botanical Gardens

The University of Ghana has announced that effective November 30, 2024, Mulch Company Limited will no longer manage the Legon Botanical Gardens.

Despite being owned by the university, the gardens have been jointly managed by the Department of Botany and Mulch Company Limited (formerly Pine Springs Company Limited).

On Friday, Mulch Company Limited posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that the gardens would close on October 30, without specifying whether the closure would be permanent or temporary.

To clarify, the University of Ghana issued a statement the following day, signed by Dr. Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs. The statement explained that the contract between the university and Mulch Company Limited will officially end on November 30, 2024.

The university also assured the public that the facility would reopen after undergoing essential repairs and renovations. “The Botanical Gardens will reopen to the public after these renovations, serving its intended purpose as a vital green space,” the statement confirmed.
