Liverpool reclaims top spot as Salah penalty beats Wolves

Mohamed Salah’s second-half penalty secured Liverpool’s return to the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 win over Wolves, keeping the hosts winless this season.

Liverpool initially took the lead at Molineux through Ibrahima Konate, who scored his first Premier League goal with a towering header just before halftime. However, Wolves responded early in the second half when Rayan Ait-Nouri found the net from close range after Carlos Forbs’ mis-hit shot, making it 1-1.

Despite Wolves’ efforts, their joy was short-lived. Five minutes later, Nelson Semedo fouled Diogo Jota in the box, giving Salah the opportunity to coolly convert the resulting penalty and restore Liverpool’s lead.

Arne Slot’s men capitalized on Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle and leapfrogged Arsenal to reclaim the top spot. In contrast, Wolves remain rooted at the bottom of the table despite a promising start to the match.

The game began with Wolves pushing forward, causing some nervous moments in Liverpool’s defense, but Alisson denied Matheus Cunha’s early effort. As Liverpool gained control, Diogo Jota and Dominik Szoboszlai both came close to scoring before Konate’s header broke the deadlock. Salah could have extended the lead soon after the break, but it was his decisive penalty that ultimately secured all three points for the visitors.
