Ademola Lookman delivered a brilliant first-half performance, scoring twice as Atalanta defeated Serie A leaders Napoli 3-0 in an impressive away victory on Sunday, lifting them to second in the league standings.
Lookman, who recently finished 14th in the Ballon d’Or voting, struck first just 10 minutes into the match, converting from close range after being set up by Charles De Ketelaere. His second goal came just after the half-hour mark, a powerful long-range effort following another assist from De Ketelaere, as Atalanta punished Napoli after Scott McTominay’s earlier shot hit the post.
In the final moments of the game, substitute Mateo Retegui rounded off the scoring, firing in a cross from Raoul Bellanova in stoppage time. This victory extended Atalanta’s winning streak to five league matches, leaving them in second place on 22 points and closing the gap with Napoli to just three points.
Atalanta now sit one point ahead of Inter, who have a game in hand, and Juventus, who trail closely in fourth.
