When asked if she felt that the nation had done enough to commemorate her, Maame Dokono said that she had, but that she believed it would be more dignified to have her bust or statue placed in Maame Dokono Park in Accra.
She stressed that having a monument like this will help to maintain her legacy and inspire the next generation to follow in her good works, but she is not interested in pressuring anyone to build her statue. For more than 50 years, Grace Omaboe, also known as Maame Dokono, has delighted audiences in Ghana with her remarkable acting abilities in dramas and films. She became well-known as the principal actress of the Obra Drama Group and the face of Akan Drama, Ghana’s most watched television drama series.
Additionally, audiences were enthralled by her story-telling television program “By the Fireside,” particularly the younger ones, who eagerly anticipated the next installment. Maame Dokono was a host of significant radio and television talk shows that tackled relevant social and human rights problems, in addition to her acting career. She is also the owner of three music albums. Maame Dokono turned eighty years old in June 2024, and on September 7, 2024, her book, a memoir covering all aspects of her life, both public and private, will be launched. Her passion and compassion for the vulnerable led her to establish the Peace and Love orphanage to care for orphans and the less fortunate children in Ghanaian society.
