You should’ve resigned over Cedi’s depreciation – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flag bearer John Dramani Mahama has tasked President Akufo Addo to resign from office due to his admin’s economic failure indicated Freedom Party’s cedi depreciation.

Addressing a campaign rally in Nkwabeng, in the Nkwanta South District, to bring his campaign tour of the Bono East Region to an end, Mahama unleashed on the current economic management. He noted reductions was the unprecedented decline in the value of the cedi which has depreciated from over GH¢ 15 to 1 US dollar.

In his response, Mahama equated the Bawumia’s current administration to poor economic indices that he recorded when he was in power such as the current inflation and exchange rates. He was again able to dwell a lot on how these economic challenges have intensified the cost of living among the masses in Ghana. Mahama used this occasion to state that when the cedi begun to depreciate any responsible leader would have left his position.

“During the late President Atta Mills’ administration, the exchange rate was GH¢2 to a dollar. When President Akufo-Addo took office, it was GH¢4 to a dollar. Now, after nearly eight years, it has risen to GH¢16 per dollar,”

“President Akufo-Addo should have resigned long ago when the Cedi depreciated to GH¢16 per dollar. It is difficult to see how GH¢16 to a dollar can be considered better than GH¢4 to a dollar”

Mahama pointed out.
