Mahama Mocks NPP’s “Slip of Tongue,” Urges Ghanaians to Reject Party
On the campaign trail in the Volta Region, former President John Mahama humorously addressed recent verbal gaffes made by leading members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), including President Akufo-Addo. According to Mahama, these slip-ups suggest that his opponents have been unconsciously thinking about him, even in their dreams.
Speaking at a youth engagement event during his Volta Regional Campaign Tour, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader referenced a biblical scripture, saying, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” He jokingly suggested that when President Akufo-Addo mistakenly referred to his administration as the “Akufo-Addo-Mahama administration,” it indicated that the president had dreamt about him the night before.
“And it’s not only him,” Mahama continued, noting that even the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP made similar slips in recent speeches. Sarcastically questioning whether the chairman was speaking Twi or English, Mahama pointed out that such errors reveal the underlying thoughts of his political opponents.
Last month, President Akufo-Addo’s verbal blunder made headlines when he inadvertently credited himself and former President Mahama for his government’s successes.
Mahama seized the opportunity to urge Ghanaians to take control of their future by rejecting the ruling NPP in the upcoming December elections. “Destiny is in your hands,” he told the crowd, encouraging them to make a change for the betterment of the nation.
As the election season heats up, Mahama’s light-hearted ribbing of the NPP underscores the intense political rivalry and the high stakes involved in the upcoming polls.
