Herve Renard has returned as manager of Saudi Arabia’s national football team following Roberto Mancini’s recent departure.
The French coach, who previously led the Saudi team from July 2019 until March 2023, famously guided them to a historic win over eventual champions Argentina during the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Renard left his position earlier this year to manage the French women’s team at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and later at the Olympics in Paris.
Mancini, who had taken over from Renard in August 2023 after stepping down as Italy’s head coach, faced challenges during his tenure, eventually reaching an agreement with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation to exit his contract.
Renard shared his excitement in a video posted on the Saudi national team’s X account, saying, “I am back. I didn’t intend to leave, but when your country calls, you must answer. My story with Saudi isn’t over yet.”
Renard’s new term begins in November as Saudi Arabia prepares for World Cup qualifiers against Australia and Indonesia.
