Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Meta, has ascended to the position of the second richest person in the world, surpassing Amazon chairman Jeff Bezos.
According to a report from Forbes, this shift follows a strong week of trading for Meta shares, which rose over 5%. As of Friday, October 4, Zuckerberg’s estimated net worth reached $205.4 billion, reflecting a $3.9 billion increase on that day, while Bezos’s net worth stands at $203.9 billion.
Zuckerberg is close behind Larry Ellison, whose net worth is approximately $208 billion, but significantly trailing Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, with a net worth of $264 billion.
Zuckerberg’s recent wealth increase aligns with a more than 2% rise in Meta shares, which closed at $595.94 on Friday, up from $567.15 at the beginning of the week. Stocks of other billionaires also saw gains, with Tesla shares leading with a 4% increase, reaching $250.08.
This week marked several milestones for Zuckerberg, notably surpassing the $200 billion mark for the first time on Thursday, making it the first occasion that four billionaires on the Forbes list are valued at $200 billion or more.
Zuckerberg’s return to the No. 3 spot follows his previous ascent over LVMH chief Bernard Arnault in August. His net worth is largely tied to his 13% stake in Meta, consisting of 345 Class A and B shares. Meta’s stock has surged more than 68% since January, when shares were trading at $346.29.
