Mauricio Pochettino has been named the new head coach of the USA men’s national soccer team. The Argentine tactician, formerly in charge of clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, takes on his first international coaching role as he prepares to guide the U.S. team toward the 2026 World Cup.
The 52-year-old parted ways with Chelsea by mutual agreement at the conclusion of last season and will now focus on leading the U.S. squad in a tournament that will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
With a coaching career spanning 15 years, Pochettino has previously managed Espanyol, Southampton, Paris Saint-Germain, and Tottenham, where he earned widespread recognition. This new challenge marks an exciting chapter in his managerial career.
Pochettino replaces Gregg Berhalter, who was dismissed after USA failed to qualify from their group at this summer’s Copa America.
“The decision to join U.S. Soccer wasn’t just about football for me; it’s about the journey that this team and this country are on,”
“The energy, the passion, and the hunger to achieve something truly historic here – those are the things that inspired me. The opportunity to lead the U.S. Men’s National Team, in front of fans who are just as passionate as the players, is something I couldn’t pass up.
Pochettino stated.
