The Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar has today commissioned the third cycle of the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) at the University of Media Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) in Accra. This learning intervention aims at enhancing the skills of those involved in the provision of media with a view to deepening their input to the democracy of Ghana.
The programme will then have physical training for 40 journalists while 60 others will attend virtual training. Reporters, producers, social media managers, and media analyst make up this group of professionals which was chosen by the intricate working committee.
Minister Abubakar also drew attention to what it means to have independent, intelligent and professional media in a democracy. She also applauded progress and increasing popularity of the MCEP as an innovative and valuable tool that helps to increase professional level of journalists.
She gave credit to her predecessor, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who is now the Minister for Housing for putting in place the programme which has now become a standard of media training in Ghana. However, since its establishment in January 2022, the MCEP has reached more than 100 journalistically beneficiaries.
This has been made possible through collaboration with the Volta River Authority – A government owned utility company and MTN which has sponsored the program which comprises of interactive sessions facilitated by experienced trainers in line with the development of the Media in Ghana.
