The government has sent military escort to Mion and Kulkpeni in Northern Region due to what was perceived as the unconcealed unlawful invasion of the market by the Konkombas in Kulkpeni.
It occurred on Saturday, August 17 to undertake pacification and avert worsening of the violence.
Conflict started after communal conflict in Zogbei, Mion District two weeks ago in which more than seven people perished. In this clash the Konkombas living in the Mion District decided to withdraw from the Mion market and organize a new market in Kulkpeni near Yendi. This led to increased tension between people of Yendi and Mion, with threats to forceful closure of the Kulkpeni market.
The Yendi Municipal Security Council has called on the market authorities and traders to follow the right channels to open the market formally but this has not been effective.
Today being Friday 23rd August, a market day, military forces had to be mobilized so as to quell any violence incidents or outbreaks of the same.
