The Minority caucus in Parliament has lodged a petition with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), urging an investigation into the alleged misuse of funds and resources from the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) in Wa West.
They allege that Vida Dioretey, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Wa West, redirected DRIP assets—including machinery and a substantial maintenance fund—toward the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the district.
According to the Minority, these actions represent a significant misallocation of public funds for partisan purposes, raising issues about accountability and governance practices within the district.
At the core of the Minority’s complaint is the claim that Dioretey transferred DRIP project equipment and GH¢400,000 in maintenance funds to the NPP candidate, who holds no official position in the district assembly and is not entitled to these resources.
Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Local Government and Rural Development Committee, criticized the alleged actions, calling on the OSP to respond promptly. “How does the NPP candidate have access to public resources? Is she the MP or the DCE?” he questioned, adding, “We have submitted a petition to the OSP, demanding a comprehensive investigation and immediate action against the DCE.”
Vanderpuye highlighted that close to GH¢400,000, intended for DRIP management across district assemblies, has reportedly been allocated, along with essential equipment, to a candidate with no legitimate administrative or elected role in local governance, despite an incumbent MP who sanctioned this funding in Parliament.
The DRIP program is designed to enhance district road infrastructure, improve rural transit, and increase accessibility. The Minority caucus argues that these resources should not be directed to individuals seeking political office, particularly when they lack any formal governmental or elected authority within the district.
