Mohammed Kudus clashes with West Ham coach after first half sub against Brentford

Mohammed Kudus reportedly had a tense moment with West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui during their recent Premier League match against Brentford, according to The Athletic.

The Hammers, struggling in the league, were seeking their second win of the season when they visited the Gtech Community Stadium. Despite falling behind early to a Bryan Mbeumo goal just 38 seconds into the match, Tomas Soucek’s second-half equalizer gave them hope.

At halftime, Kudus and Lopetegui clashed after the manager expressed dissatisfaction with the Ghanaian midfielder’s performance. Kudus, feeling the criticism was unjustified, showed frustration. He was replaced shortly after by Carlos Soler.

In his post-match comments, Lopetegui addressed the substitution: “It was a tactical decision. In the second half, the team worked well together, and that’s the step we needed to take,” he explained.

Club insiders have downplayed the incident, with sources close to Kudus denying any need for intervention during the exchange. West Ham representatives reportedly contacted Kudus’ camp to assure them that there are no lingering issues between the player and coach.

After a stellar debut season under former manager David Moyes, Kudus has yet to find the back of the net in eight appearances this season. As West Ham prepares to host Ipswich Town at the London Olympic Stadium this weekend, the 24-year-old will be eager to end his goal drought.
