Omowunmi, widow of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has agreed to take a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their son, Liam. This decision was announced in a statement from the family’s legal representative, following prolonged tensions and legal disputes within the family.
Mohbad, who passed away on September 12, 2024, under contentious circumstances, was buried the next day in Ikorodu, Lagos. However, public calls for clarity led to the exhumation of his body for an autopsy shortly after his burial.
Following his passing, Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, filed for a DNA test to verify Liam’s paternity, initiating legal proceedings. Initial attempts to serve Omowunmi with the court papers encountered delays, with her representatives citing challenges in delivering the documents.
Subsequently, the Magistrates Court in Ikorodu encouraged both parties to pursue alternative dispute resolution methods, leading to several private negotiations. Despite these efforts, no agreement was reached until recently. In a statement released on Sunday, October 27, 2024, by Omowunmi’s lawyer, it was confirmed that she has agreed to proceed with the DNA test, and both parties have settled on terms for the resolution.
