A traffic light at the busy Bukom Boxing Arena intersection has become a serious hazard for pedestrians and motorists, with its deteriorating condition posing a major safety risk.
Over the past several months, the traffic light has rusted and weakened, leaving it in a precarious state. The metal structure holding it up is heavily corroded, with its once-sturdy frame now dangerously close to collapsing. The bulbs are dangling from the poles, and it seems just a matter of time before the traffic light comes crashing down.
The current state of the traffic light has created a potential death trap, putting anyone passing through the intersection at risk. Urgent repairs are needed to avoid a catastrophe and ensure safety for all road users.
A resident who spoke to Adomonline’s photojournalist described the situation as “an accident waiting to happen,” emphasizing how serious the risk has become. “It’s only held up by a small piece of metal, and we fear that it could fall any day now, causing serious harm to both vehicles and pedestrians.”
Motorists and locals alike are calling for immediate action. One motorist shared, “Every time we drive by, it’s like we’re waiting for disaster. Something must be done now before it’s too late.” Another concerned resident urged authorities to intervene swiftly, stating, “We need the Ghana Highway Authority and Accra Metropolitan Assembly to step in before lives are lost.”
The community continues to appeal for a quick response to fix the traffic light and prevent any tragic incident from happening.
