Ghana has reported a second confirmed case of Mpox, bringing the total number of infections to two. The new case involves the mother of a 15-year-old boy who was diagnosed with the virus in September. Health authorities are now closely monitoring both individuals to prevent any further transmission.
Dr. Dennis Laryea, the Deputy Director of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service, reassured the public that measures are being implemented to contain the outbreak. Mpox, also referred to as Monkeypox, is a viral infection that spreads through direct contact with infected individuals or contaminated surfaces. Symptoms commonly include fever, rash, and swollen lymph nodes.
In light of the recent cases, health officials are encouraging the public to remain vigilant, adhere to hygiene practices, and report any suspected symptoms to healthcare professionals immediately.
The Ghana Health Service has ramped up public awareness campaigns and is collaborating with local health facilities to enhance their readiness for any potential cases. Additionally, resources have been allocated to track and monitor contacts, particularly in affected communities.
