Claims that Ghana has reported four cases of the Mpox disease have been denied by Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, the Director in charge of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service (GHS). He asserted that Ghana had not documented any instances of data misrepresentation, which was the basis for the claim. The ongoing spread of mpox across the region prompted a warning last Friday from the Regional Centre for Surveillance and Disease Control of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). According to the Center, there had been 44 confirmed cases and one death in various West African countries by the end of Epi Week 33 in 2024. The nations that have been reported to have cases are Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and Côte d’Ivoire. Instead, he added that Ghana had not documented any such cases and that the claim was an example of data falsification.
