MTN shows commitment to sustainability through project zero

MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability, particularly through its Project Zero initiative, during a media briefing in Accra. The event provided updates on MTN’s ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity, improve customer experience, and promote environmental responsibility.

Ms. Wiafe emphasized MTN’s long-term goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040 as part of its broader sustainability framework. “Our environmental focus is centered on reducing carbon emissions, and we are making significant investments in renewable energy sources like solar power to support our operations. By decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and optimizing our network infrastructure for better energy efficiency, we are working to minimize our environmental impact,” she explained.

She further noted that MTN is encouraging sustainability throughout its supply chain, urging suppliers and partners to adopt greener practices. “We believe that sustainability should be ingrained in every aspect of our business operations, ensuring a more sustainable value chain,” she added.

The Project Zero initiative aligns with global climate goals, including the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7: affordable and clean energy, and SDG 13: climate action). It leverages advanced technologies and partnerships to enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and drive sustainable business practices.

Ultimately, MTN’s Project Zero reflects the company’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future.
