The La District Court has instructed the prosecution in the O’Reilly Senior High School murder case to submit a hospital report within 24 hours to determine the age of the student accused of killing a fellow general arts student. Discrepancies regarding the accused’s age have delayed the commencement of committal proceedings.
The family of the deceased claims the accused is 24 years old, while others assert he is 18. This prompted the court to mandate a medical examination to clarify his age. During a court session yesterday, Chief Inspector Paul Osei Adjei stated that the report would be available today, September 20.
The police have collected a blood sample from the accused, but the court denied a request for a one-week adjournment, with presiding judge Adwoa Benaso Asumadu-Sakyi emphasizing that the high public interest in the case necessitated timely proceedings. The court has thus ordered that the age report be presented today. The victim, Edward Borketey Sackey, was fatally attacked by a classmate following a dispute after an examination on campus.
