BoG Report – New vehicle registration for first 5 months of 2024 increases by 10.2 percent

Data from the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Monetary Policy Report has revealed that the number of new vehicle registrations from January to May 2024 increased by 10.2 percent.

This is a component of an exercise the Central Bank is doing on the operations of the transportation sector, which is measured by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority’s (DVLA) new vehicle registrations.

“Cumulatively, the number of vehicles registered by the DVLA within the first five months of 2024 increased by 10.2 per cent to 83,878, from 76,115 recorded a year ago”, the report said.

According to the report, the figure increased on a year-on-year basis by 36.1 per cent to 16,220 in May 2024.

In January this year, the DVLA recorded one of its highest vehicle registrations in the early days of 2024. This was after the authority migrated its operations onto an exclusive online vehicle registration platform.

In January, the DVLA registered more than 8,000 vehicles.
