The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, September 6, has had a busy day with a number of presidential contenders flocking the Commissioner Jean Mensa’s office to formally submit their nominations forms. Thus far, businessmen Nana Kwame Bediako of the New Force, independent candidate George Twum Barima Adu, Samuel Apea-Danquah of Yellow Ghana, and Dr. Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC) have all filed their candidacy.
Following the submission of his nomination, Dr. Hassan Ayariga considered the dismissal of former EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei, asserting that his previous criticism of her leadership had been validated. Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), submitted his nomination as well.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also turned in his nomination forms earlier in the day. Alongside Dr. Bawumia were his running companion, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and his spouse, Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh.
In addition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia submitted John Mahama, the party’s flagbearer, for the presidency. Asiedu Nketia complimented the EC during the filing for opening up the nomination procedure.
