Nsoatreman’s aspirations of advancing to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage were dealt a significant blow following a 2-0 defeat to CS Constantine in the first leg of their final qualifying round at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The result means the Ghanaian side now faces a daunting task in next week’s second leg at the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium in Algeria, needing an extraordinary turnaround to progress.
CS Constantine’s Zakaria Benchaa stole the show, netting both goals for the Algerian club. He opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a precise finish from a tight angle, before unleashing a brilliant long-range effort in the 27th minute that left Nsoatreman’s goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu helpless.
Although Nsoatreman controlled possession and created numerous chances, their inability to convert opportunities proved costly, as they failed to find the back of the net. The missed chances left fans disappointed, and the players visibly dejected by the final whistle.
Heading into the second leg in Algeria, Nsoatreman faces an uphill struggle but will need to deliver an exceptional performance to keep their hopes of reaching the group stage alive.
Regardless of the final outcome, the team will gain invaluable experience from their inaugural appearance in continental competition.
