Eric Alagidede, General Manager of Nsoatreman FC, has called on the Government of Ghana to prioritize investment in football development following his team’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup. Nsoatreman FC, in their debut appearance in the tournament, were knocked out by Algeria’s CS Constantine after a 3-0 aggregate defeat, losing 2-0 in the first leg and 1-0 in the second.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Alagidede stressed the importance of government involvement in enhancing the country’s football infrastructure and competitive edge on the continental stage.
“Government needs to take an active interest in developing our football,” he remarked. “CS Constantine flew directly into the country, but we had to make several stops—flying to Istanbul, then Algiers, and finally to Constantine. In North Africa, the entire country rallies behind their teams when they qualify for continental competitions, and it’s time for our government to invest in our football.”
Alagidede also highlighted the challenges posed by the lack of suitable facilities in Ghana, noting the absence of an approved stadium for their home matches.
“Even if we had qualified, there isn’t an approved stadium for us to play in,” he said. “This is a serious issue, and we need to address these deficiencies if we want to elevate the standard of our football.”
He urged the authorities to take action, emphasizing that proper infrastructure and government backing are essential for the country’s football to progress.
