ORAL has called a protest for September 4, 2024, at the Ministry of Finance

The youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) known as Operation Recover All Loot Brigade (ORAL) has called a protest for September 4, 2024, at the Ministry of Finance. This is really a protest against what the group believes is poor management of Ghana’s affairs especially under the NPP administration.

Another argument is that the demonstration is intended to ensure that the government gives full accounts on how it has utilized the country’s financial resources. As mentioned earlier, following various revelations published by ORAL, the company has alleged and pointed to various questionable financial transactions, which include a US $ 34. These include the 9 million Ambulance Spare Parts contract, the GRA-SML agreement and spending in connection with the All-African Games.

According to Osman Ayariga, the convener of the group, those key individuals in the Ministry of Finance have allegedly embezzled huge amounts of money. He noted his worry on what he termed as mismanagement of public debt in the country.

Ayariga said that ORAL is going to picket the Ministry of Finance, then they will march to Jubilee House and other government offices they alleged are involved in corruption. As for the goals of the group, it is to call for an urgent and effective action regarding the cases of embezzlement that have recently been revealed.

He also declared that the ORAL Brigade will convene at the Ministry of Finance on September 4 to express their concerns and demand that these matters be investigated in detail. They also call for prevention of such payments and for the money to be reclaimed where required.

Ayariga stressed that this protest is important in reacting to the misuse of the state’s public financial resources and in rebuilding the people’s confidence on the financial management of the country. He further said that this is not the only protest from the National Conscious Oral Brigade as they intend to conduct more protests in their quest to seek accountability in the management of public funds.

The group also tried to criticize the current government and asked if the government had embezzled public funds by failing to fully explain the loans and spending.
